In my last blog post, I mentioned that I’ve almost finished a new novel. I’m in that “set it aside for a bit, then look at it with fresh eyes for a final edit” phase… which also means it’s time to design a new cover. Damn. While I put off that onerous task, allow me to tell you a little about my new story? Writing the ‘blurb’ is the hardest part, but here’s what I have.
Eshe had been dead for centuries, a citizen of Egypt in the time of the Middle Kingdom. Having died in a time of war, she hadn’t undergone all the usual funerary practices and didn’t qualify for the afterlife.
Professor Grant Summers is the first to read her scroll – on the night that he suffers a fatal heart attack just as he recites the formula, “I am yesterday, and today, and tomorrow. I have the power to be born a second time.”
The gods of Egypt are old, tired and greatly diminished… but one of the greatest Egyptologists of his generation has cast the first spell in over a thousand years and they choose to honour it. Enter Aisha Burnside: a Berkeley grad student and reincarnation of Eshe… with the memories of Grant Summers.
Who wouldn’t want another chance at life?
Even if it’s not going to be easy.
I hope you will enjoy Egyptology, a magical realism crime story with trans elements and some humour along the way. As ever, supported by the wonderful people at TransScripts. If you’ve got a story to tell – something a little deeper than the usual identikit tranny shame fetish porn – you really should check them out.
Update:
Egyptology is now live on Amazon. Please see the link under “Books for Sale” in the sidebar.
